Yes, I know it's been awhile since my first post but a lot has been going on...and by that I mean issues with my engagement with Song. It's a really long story so I'm just going to shorten it.
So here it is: Song is Christian and it is stated in the ten commandments that you are not kneel to anyone else besides God. Now, on my dad's side of the family (they're Buddhist, however, this part has nothing to do with Buddhism), it's "tradition," to kneel to the altar of elders who have passed away, which in this case are his parents. It is a way of showing respect to my dad and my family. However, since Song cannot kneel, we've explained this over and over to both my parents and they still don't get it. Therefore, they just take it as Song and his family being disrespectful towards them....not the right interpretation of this whole mess...Now I'm stuck in the middle because I'm the daughter to be wedded away and then, I'm also Song's fiance. Song has even said that he would do anything my dad asks of him, EXCEPT for kneeling...so now my parents are saying, "If he can't do that then there will be no engagement and no wedding. If you decide to have a wedding anyway, then we won't be there to support you, we will not show up."
After a few exchanges of voicemails...my dad won't talk to me because he thinks I am choosing Song's entire family over him. Which is absolutely not true. I am not choosing sides! I am choosing US. I don't think my dad can comprehend that...I understand why he is upset with certain aspects of the issue, but the only way to move forward is to compromise or negotiate some solution which doesn't seem likely...so not exactly sure what's going to happen at the moment; everything is just kind of in limbo right now.
My brother said that it seems my dad is avoiding the situation because he is afraid of the result, or the outcome. He knows that he likes Song but does not want to cave in because then it'll make him look weak or soft to Song and his family. But if he stays strong he will lose me in the process.
And I'm frustrated with some people who think that this is an issue with Song's pride because it totally is not! This is his Faith in God we're talking about not some stupid man's pride. I know Song...and he honestly would do anything for my happiness. That's what we do, otherwise we wouldn't be trying so hard to get married!
Sorry, I tried to shorten it, that was the best I could do, anyway that's the gist of it all :\ hope I didn't put a damper on your Friday evening!
On a happier note, I came back from a trip to Arizona! Visited our best friends Hai and Marion down there :) and we also ran in the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll Half Marathon! Woo! :) That was a lot of fun! About 7 miles in I was feeling good and then out of nowhere I got a pain in my right foot! :( I was so scared that maybe my tendon was going to collapse or something so I ended up slowing wayyy....DOWN...I was not happy about that. The course was awesome though, the best part I had to say was the 1 mile uphill into the mountains, because majority of the race was sponsored by P.F. Chang's, so they had the Chinese drummers right before you went uphill--giving you that upbeat feeling that you need! Then, hairpin turn back downhill and you got to hear them again (it was so loud!). Did I mention there was a dragon running in the race?? I wish I got a picture of it! It was composed of 6 to 7 runners holding a pole that is one whole dragon! That must've been tiring! Arizona is filled with orange trees! We had an orange to eat at all times of the day because Hai's apartment had an orange right on the patio! They're just everywhere!
Brooks Run Happy Island at convention day before the race! Best part was the Shoe Rodeo thing!
We had to get passports to do stuff in Run Happy Island, fancy! :)
This cool lookin' chandelier was found in Cartel's Coffee Lab downtown Phoenix. Awesome coffee shop BTW.
